Check Your Narrative

You’ve most likely gotten it wrong…

It’s easy to overestimate your influence on people and situations—say hello to your ego. It’s not always arrogance; often, it’s innocent. But even then, you tend to make yourself more important in the story than you actually are.

Your mind is quick to craft a narrative with you as the central character—your thoughts, your intentions, your perspective taking the spotlight.

But in truth? You’re not the main character. You might not even be an extra in the scene.

Most of the time, others are consumed by their own storylines, their own fears, their own needs. You just happen to cross paths in their world for a moment.

The discipline is to step back.

To check your narrative before it hardens into belief.

To realize that your importance, your role, your interpretation of events—may all be slightly or wildly off.

When you learn to see reality without the filter of ego, you move closer to wisdom.

“The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.” — Leonardo da Vinci
