Unrecognized Goodness

A thankless job is one filled with good deeds. Outside recognition for doing what is right or kind is not the aim. It is what is expected and, ultimately, unimpressive.

Do not be discouraged if your deeds go unnoticed. And certainly, do not allow recognition to fuel your good works. It is better for you that they go unnoticed so that you are not poisoned by the wrong motivation.

Better a good deed goes unnoticed than you be praised and become enamored with the praise over the deed.

Better to do right and go unrewarded than to do wrong and go unpunished. Nothing good comes from seeking out gratitude or recognition for what you have done.

Remember, you didn’t do anything you weren’t expected to do. Do good because you are good, period. Anything else that comes your way is extra, but do not expect or seek it out.
