Why Not Me

Stop asking why me.

Start asking why not me.

Why me is the question of the person who has stopped looking. They have cataloged their limits and defends them. They are waiting for the world to validate what he already decided about thrmself.

Why not me is a different posture entirely. It is the question of the one still finding rooms in their own house they have not seen yet.

You do not know what you are capable of. You have only seen what you have done so far.

That distinction is the whole game.

The person who confuses their track record with their ceiling has set a floor on themself the world never set. Every win felt like the maximum. Every loss confirmed the limit. They stopped experimenting decades ago and has been calling that maturity.

Most of what you believe about your own capacity is theory. Untested. Outdated. Inherited from a younger version of you who was scared and looking for a reason to quit.

Test it.

Apply for the thing. Send the message. Take the meeting. Walk into the room you have been avoiding. Try the work you assumed was for someone else.

Not because it will definitely work. Because you have no evidence that it will not.

Why not me. Why not now.

The ones who built lives worth envying did not have better odds. They asked the better question and walked toward the answer.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.” — commonly attributed to Mark Twain
