Nothing Fails Like Success
Success is the most dangerous thing that can happen to you. Not failure. Success.
Failure forces you to change — when a thing does not work, you are compelled to find another way, and the compulsion keeps you adaptable. Success does the opposite. It rewards what you did, trains you to repeat it, and quietly makes you rigid at the exact moment the world is about to demand that you bend again.
You grew because you were hungry — driven by pressure, by challenge, by the sting of not yet being enough. Success removes all of it. It feeds the hunger, eases the pressure, answers the sting. And with the fuel gone, the engine stops, and you mistake the silence for having arrived.
What got you here will not get you there. The method that won this was calibrated to conditions that no longer exist and to a man you no longer are. Loyalty to it is now the liability.
The hunger will not come back on its own. Winning killed it.
So manufacture it. Build the pressure success removed. Pick the harder target, the one that makes you inadequate again, and go stand at the bottom of it.
Comfort is not the reward for success.
It is the first symptom of its decline.
