Return to Stillness
Whose permission are you waiting for?
You have handed the wheel to someone whose only qualification is that you decided their opinion counts.
Take it back. You do not need permission. What is right by your own measure is the only measure that matters, and you already know what it says.
The need for approval is not a weakness you can simply decide to drop — it is a force, and it obeys a law.
Every system in nature tends toward equilibrium. Left alone, things return to rest. Motion meets friction and slows. Heat dissipates to match the room. A ball rolled uphill rolls back down to the bottom, to the steady state, to stillness. And you are a system too, subject to the same pull — except your friction is social. The need for approval, the discomfort of standing out, the quiet disapproval of the people around you: those are the forces trying to return you to rest.
Equilibrium is the place potential goes to die, and approval-seeking is the mechanism that drags you back to it every time you start to move.
Stop submitting to the friction. The disapproval you feel when you step out is not a sign you are doing something wrong. It is the force field around the steady state, and feeling it means you are finally leaving.
Stay in motion. Let them pull.
